January 1st brings with it a new year and an opportunity to start fresh. Why not extend our new year’s resolutions to our business practices? Tidying Up with Marie Kondo sparked a movement to “clear out the clutter—and spark joy.” An end-of-year clean-out is great way to spark joy for the new year.
A Clean Workspace
Keeping the physical office space clean is more important than you may think. A clean work environment means happier employees! Think about it: How many hours a week are you spending in the office? A clean workspace will allow everyone to feel more comfortable, productive, and content.
Computer Maintenance
Companies such as Ferret Software and West County Computers provide a list of five reasons why computer maintenance is important. Many companies rely on technology for communication and job duties, and maintaining them throughout the year is sometimes forgotten. Late in the year is better than never to give your technology a refresh.
Benefits of File Maintenance
File maintenance, defined by Encyclopedia.com, is concerned with the internal organization of files, focusing on integrity and efficiency. The end of the year is a perfect time to go through your company’s files and make changes that will increase productivity in the new year. This can include updating contact information, removing obsolete or updating current software, and renewing contracts with clients.
The Importance of Appreciation
Wrapping up the year should include thank-yous! Thanking coworkers and staff for their hard work over the last year may motivate them to keep up the good work in the new year. And don’t forget to thank clients—their business keeps you in business!
